IAG cut 90% of capacity to end of May, lay off 52,000 staff

British Airways, Iberia, AerLingus, Vueling, and AerEuropa owner IAG has announced a group-wide reduction of 90% to its capacity out to the end of May.

The decision has meant the airline taking up the U.K. Government pay protection scheme for 30,000 staff and asking 4,000 pilots to take 4 weeks unpaid leave, just to relieve British Airways.

Another 17,000 staff have been laid off in Spain at Vueling, AerEuropa and Iberia. AerLingus is waiting to take advantage of a scheme from the Irish Government.
