Alitalia re-nationalised by Italian Government

Alitalia has been renationalised at a cost of some $580m by the Italian Government, in effect saving the airline, which only made a profit once since it was opened in 1949.

The bloated, over manned airline has failed to find a buyer and its the last thing on anyone’s mind as the rest of the world struggles to keep flying.

France too, has said today that it is prepared to renationalise any key industry including airlines, if it becomes necessary.
