US stops travel from Europe – except the U.K.

The United States has declared a ban on all travel from Europe – Except the United Kingdom, that will come into effect Friday midnight East Coast time and last 30 days.

Quite why the U.K. has been left off the list when it’s own coronavirus cases have been climbing relentlessly in the past few days seems uncertain but will no doubt come as a relief to BA and Virgin Atlantic, not that anyone is travelling much at present.

The economic consequences of this on Europe’s airlines will be profound. The ban is also oddly one sided, it doesn’t stop US airlines flying to Europe, they just can’t bring anyone back, effectively nullifying trans-Atlantic travel.
