Cathay Pacific has half its fleet grounded

Cathay Pacific has launched a campaign stressing how it cares for its passengers as it reached a worrying milestone – half of its fleet is now grounded.

The cause is a mix of CoVid-19 and the severing of many flights to China, coupled to reductions on international flights for the same reason. On top of that the pro-democracy protests, which are continuing but in smaller size but more locations, have continued to have their impact.

The crews have been placed on unpaid leave, rotating through three weeks on and three weeks off, and the aircraft still have to paid for if leased. Cathay Pacific’s finances are going to look like a wrecking ball has gone through them – something the airline has never experienced in its long history.
