ANA is expected to order more 787’s this week from Boeing. The exact number isn’t yet known but one thing is.
The Rolls-Royce engine saga has soured the airline against the company and they’re opting for the GE power plant instead.
The Rolls-Royce Trent-1000 problems are still far from over, airlines are still dealing with the fallout, which has been down to one fix – an imbalanced fan blade, leading to other problems that develop once the fix is applied, that lead to further unforeseen issues.
For example Virgin Atlantic was to have ended A346 operations in January but 789 engine issues have the remaining aircraft still in the schedules until May.
It’ll be interesting to see how many 787’s (although 20 are expected) and the mix that ANA order. They have a bewildering variety of domestic, mid haul and long haul international configurations.
