Boeing admitted today that it’s found a worrying number of MAX fuel tanks contain detritus and contamination from production.
As a result every stored and grounded MAX will have to be inspected and where necessary, decontaminated.
Duke tank contamination isn’t new at Boeing. The United States Air Force has been deeply aggravated by the contamination of fuel tanks and other vacant space on the KC46 Tanker – based on the 767.
Boeing seems remarkably capable of damaging its own interests with such ease it almost beggars belief.
Boeing have already held meetings with staff at Renton and given them talks and training on what’s described as FOD (foreign object detritus) issues, and how to make sure it doesn’t happen.
The question has to be how has this not been part of the process all along?
