Qatar blames other shareholders for AirItaly closure

In a statement issued late yesterday Qatar Airways politely but succinctly blamed the 51% shareholders of AirItaly for its closure.

Qatar stated in effect that it was more than happy to invest more money and support the airline, but the other shareholders wouldn’t or couldn’t come up with matching funds as required under E.U. law.

There’s no doubt that Qatar feels deeply let down by the other shareholders and more than a bit embarrassed. It’s made it quite clear this wasn’t their choice and they would have supported the airline all the way.
