Boeing’s much anticipated 777-9 has finally taken its first flight.
GE had major problems with the engine last year that required an extensive delay, even Boeing wasn’t expecting to fly the aircraft until March.
However it cleared its first major hurdle, finally taking off for a short flight on Saturday.
This will bring some cheer to Boeing, mired as it has been in so much bad news.
Provided the programme can stay on track first deliveries may happen as soon as this time next year, and as some of the first aircraft are already close to completion Emirates, that can’t come soon enough.
