Cathay Pacific offers unpaid leave to pilots and cabin crew as crisis deepens

Cathay Pacific’s continued problems, almost entirely related to the ongoing pro-democracy protests in the city, have reached a point where it’s offering pilots and cabin crew unpaid leave for a month.

The airline is offering the deal to all of its staff across Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon.

The downturn in visitor numbers is around 15% and most international airlines have reduced service to the city. Hotels across Hong Kong are down as much as 25% but despite offers from airlines and hotels little changes.

The impact on Cathay has been substantial- it’s cash flow has been hit hard and it’s profits almost are certain to become a record loss.
