Sir Tim Clarke, effective founder of Emirates which started back in 1985 with 2 leased aircraft from PIA, and has been with it ever since, is to retire in June 2020.
Possibly one of the most influential airline executives of the last 40 years, Tim Clarke created one of the worlds largest airlines, championed the cause of the A380 and was largely responsible for it becoming a viable aircraft, putting an extraordinary level of faith in the Airbus.
His departure comes at an interesting time for the airline, faced with major changes and a new chapter in its development.
His often frank and no-nonsense approach grew out of confidence and his airlines purchasing power arguably disturbed and disrupted the entire aviation sector. The US majors and European flag carriers simply found it nearly impossible to compete.
