In a deeply disappointing move, Air New Zealand have decided to end the Los Angeles-London part of its Auckland – London route.
This will end in October 2020 and terminate the only service that flies between the two countries.
Air New Zealand will operate instead a direct New York Newark service using 787-9’s three times a week, which will be scheduled to match United Airlines flights from London.
United flights to LAX will also provide a link to London where passengers can join ANZ to Auckland daily.
The market for the route as is, using a 773ER to LAX then a layover before it flies on to London has been undermined through competition from the ME3.
With regional links in the U.K. direct to ME3 airports where passengers can transfer for flights to New Zealand, at lower prices, has slowly undermined the route. All three of the ME3 operate Auckland flights.
