Swiss ground A220 fleet over engine issues

Swiss has grounded its fleet of A220’s due to problems with the engines.

Some of the aircraft are already inspected and back in service, the rest should be back in the air by Friday morning.

The cause was a worrying shut down of an engine on its way from Geneva to London that was serious enough to force a landing in Paris.

The LEAP geared turbine has been continuously problematic and it’s not the first time issues have caused disruption.

It’s yet more evidence that manufacturers don’t get time to thoroughly design and test engines before they go into operation. Emirates have stated they won’t take any aircraft with under-developed engine systems in future.
