AirAsia made a significant order with Airbus for 12 A330neo and 30 A320XLR’s this week.
That brings the total of A330neo’s on order to 78.
The XLR is an important choice for the airline as its strategy is to expand into secondary cities in China and Australia, that an A330 is too large for. It will also allow it to better manage seasonal travel changes and move aircraft types to meet demand.
Part of the deal – and a growing requirement from customers with under-developed aerospace sectors, is that Airbus will support a Malaysian Government digital initiative to aid local aviation support industries. Airbus also agreed to provide more local service training and support.
