Production of the Dornier’s 328-110 turboprop 27 seat regional airliner looks set to re-start in Saxony, Germany.
An attempt to start an assembly line in Turkey, by Sierra Nevada Corp. (SNC) and its wholly owned subsidiary 328 Support Services GmbH (328 SSG), had failed. They now plan to revive production in Leipzig, with backing from the Saxony state government. Officials from the two companies, along with ministers from Saxony, are expected to announce plans for the new facility August 21.
There are virtually no small regional aircraft in the category anywhere now under construction, but they clearly have a a market as the vast majority of the Dornier’s built are still in service. 17 are even in use with American Special Forces as the C-146A Wolfhound.
