Qantas-Cathay code share deal scuppered by Australia

Qantas and Cathay Pacific were due to wrap up an extensive code share agreement which has been supported by Australia’s IASC. Until yesterday when the whole thing was stopped in its tracks.

Coupled to the American Airlines Joint Venture with Qantas which was prevented 3 years ago but has now been approved, it would have been a hugely significant boost to Qantas, largely at the expense of consumer choice.

It seems the Australian Government decided otherwise and the whole thing has been stopped in its tracks.

Neither Qantas or Cathay Pacific are happy about it. Right now there’s not a lot they can do about it.
