Virgin Atlantic are I’m told, in talks to buy up to ten A330neo to replace the existing leased fleet of 10 A333’s which run out starting in 2021.
While the company was said originally to be looking at more Dreamliners, the whole Rolls Royce engine saga has put them off over-commitment to a single type and 789’s are a lot more expensive.
The company has, whenever possible chosen Rolls Royce power in the past.
The A333 fleet was leased in originally because of the long delays to the 787. It seems they have earned themselves a similar replacement, and having flown on them several times, Virgin spec makes them a very pleasant experience in mid-haul.
