Lufthansa bids for Thomas Cook Condor

The Lufthansa Group has, as I have long predicted, made a take-over bid for Thomas Cook’s Condor airline, based in Germany.

Lufthansa has also expressed an interest in the rest of the Thomas Cook airlines based in the UK, Spain and Scandinavia.

Lufthansa said it plans to buy and keep Condor, not split it up, operating it as another group airline. Quite how the anti-trust and monopolies authorities will see it in Germany and the EU is another matter, as it would give Lufthansa – already the major German operator, even more of a stranglehold on the German market, never mind the European aviation business generally.
