Lufthansa announced today that it’s to retire and return 6 of its A380’s over 2022-23.
In a deal with Airbus the airline has ordered 20 more A350-900’s which will offset the retired aircraft and replace some older aircraft.
The financial details around the deal haven’t yet been revealed but it’s another blow to the long term future of these massive aircraft. Lufthansa, Air France and Qatar have all announced plans to retire all or some of their A380 fleets.
In a first for the airline it also ordered 20 Boeing 787-9’s.
