Delta orders more Airbus A220’s

Delta Airlines announced an order for an additional 15 A220’s bringing its new total to 90. It commences full service operations on January 31st from La Guardia to Boston Logan and Dallas Fort Worth International.

The new tranche of 15 are all A220-300’s, the first time the airline has ordered them directly, having previously converted 35 of the A220-100’s to -300’s. The current order book is split 50/40 in favour of the larger type.

The new order will be built at the Airbus Assembly plant next to the A320’s at Mobile, Alabama. the plant begin construction at the end of January.

The order is even more significant as it strengthens further Delta’s sharp lean towards Airbus in the longer term.

The Number of orders picked up by the A220 series since its take over by Airbus on July 18th has been marked – its exceptionally unlikely Bombardier would ever have been able to offer the prices needed to secure them.
