It’s taken so long to deliver the 145 777-300ER’s ordered by the airline that six of them have already been retired.
Yet on December 2nd the airline took its final aircraft in one of the largest orders ever made for the type.
Combined with the A380, the now two-type fleet has come to dominate the Middle Eastern aviation market and has transformed travel between Asia and Europe especially.
This isn’t the end of course – Emirates has an order pending and is the launch customer for 150 777’s; 115 -9’s and 35 -8’s, the first -9 was powered up electrically this week.
Emirates will begin taking aircraft from early 2020, with the -8’s in 2021-22.
