Air Asia X ordered 34 A330neo earlier this year. But it hasn’t actually signed the full contract, and now the time has come to do so it’s not sure it wants all of them.
The airline is struggling with overall capacity issues but still wants new more efficient aircraft.
The solution the company is looking at is reducing the size of the ordered aircraft – possibly as many as 50% might be converted to the A321LR.
While the news for Airbus is good in that it still gets an order – the downside is it’s another minor blow to the A330neo programme which seems to be under continuous pressure. It’s just not selling as well as it Airbus want or expected.
