Is it any wonder that British Airways parent IAG tried to buyout Norwegian? Not if you base it on passenger numbers, no!
The Norwegian airline has managed to claim 1.67 million passengers into the New York Ports Authority area – which includes Newark & JFK. BA only managed 1.63 million. United holds third place.
Yet it’s never about customer numbers, it’s about profits and there is no doubt that BA and United are a choice made by customers and they make a substantial profit.
Norwegian has yet to show anything like the profits and margins traditional airlines make – despite the low cost fares they offer in competition.
The market though, is changing. BA is aggressive in its fight back especially at Gatwick, and the inevitable arrival of LEVEL to the U.K. will see an even more direct challenge to Norwegian.
