As Alitalia saga grinds on, unions threaten strikes

The fate of Alitalia is once again in the balance as by 31st October it’s temporary financing runs out and the politics around it are far from settled.

The new government is completely split over what to to do as both parties forming the coalition have opposed views on a solution.

Externally, several business groups from airlines to capital investment groups have offered to buy the airline in one format or another. They have no idea where they stand.

And the Unions? Their answer to not knowing is to make things worse and threaten to strike. They may have no opportunity if the airline ceases to operate.

Alitalia needs a solution, it’s workforce deserves an answer and potential customers need the confidence to buy tickets. It’s time someone took responsibility for its future and made a decision.
