After a competitive examination of both the 737 Max family and the Airbus A320 family, Aegean Airlines, now the effective flag carrier for Greece, has chosen Airbus.
The airline said early this year that it was completely open to re-fleeting with the 737 if it proved to have the range, economy and flexibility the airline sought.
After months of consideration the airline decided that the range and fuel savings on the A320neo series far outweighed the Max family.
The order, worth around €5 billion based on list prices, consists of 10 A321neo and 32 A320neo. Deliveries will commence in 2019-20.
