ANZ explained its plans yesterday, to replace its 772 fleet.
The airline is planning on talking to Boeing and Airbus, but it’s inclination is surely towards Boeing.
The airline explained that whichever aircraft it chooses, will lead to a similar aircraft being chosen to replace the 773 fleet over time.
I’d be frankly amazed if they chose Airbus A359’s and then progressed into A35K’s. The 777-X programme is far more likely to fit with current operations, but it may come down to who produces the best ULR version.
The temptation to want to reach new destinations and route valuable business and tourist visitors to one of the worlds most remote countries has to be there.
The airline will submit a request for proposals to both manufacturers by September and order aircraft by April 2019 for delivery in the last half of 2022.
