Austrian Airlines told it won’t get new aircraft

Lufthansa Group board has told its Austrian subsidiary it isn’t earning enough money to justify new aircraft – something the airline desperately wants.

Currently it operates a small fleet of 772’s and 767’s for long haul but having looked hard at the books, Group has decided Austrian just doesn’t warrant the investment right now.

Austrians argument was that new aircraft would provide more options to expand and make money, but Lufthansa Group was having none of it.

It’s a stark difference with Swiss who are getting more 773ER’s to improve their fleet.
