Japan Airlines to create long haul budget airline

JAL has decided – possibly with the imminent merger and changes coming to competitor ANA’s Peach and Vanilla brands, to build its own low-cost long haul operation, ideally before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

JAL’s plan includes low-cost long haul to Europe and North America, concentrating on families and young people who are rarely well served by Japan’s principle airlines, focused as they are on business travellers.

JAL seems to have decided to get in on an act that Nok Air, Scoot and even Eurowings and Joon are all aiming for, Japan’s Narita Airport north of the capital will be hosting all of them before summer’s end.
