Qatar Airways first quarter 2018 was a financial disaster, with the blockade and re-routing costing the airline dearly, but it’s not giving up on any of its investments or long term plans.
One way it can help 20% owned IAG, is to support British Airways during its problems with Rolls Royce powered 787’s. Qatar is looking at supplying some of its own fleet to help BA during peak summer operations.
Qatar, which also owns 49% of Air Italy, ex-Meridiana, is to transfer permanently three of its A330’s to the airline.
If this all sounds a bit like Etihad you might be thinking how will it all end? It’s not going to end in ruin as AirBerlin and Alitalia have – Etihad tried to resuscitate what was effectively dead already, Qatar are investing in successful expanding airlines.
