American Airlines orders 47 787’s, defers 40 737’s

American Airlines has, as expected chosen to order up to 47 787 Dreamliners, cancelling an order for 22 A350’s inherited from US Airways.

American has also ruled out any possibility with the order, of buying any A330Neos.

It wasn’t all good news for Boeing because the airline has deferred 40 737-8’s for as long as 5 years, and possibly further.

The order for so many Dreamliners covers replacing A330’s, 767’s and some older 772’s.

The airline has held its option to determine the exact mix of 787 derivatives to the last moment, giving it maximum flexibility.

The list price of the aircraft is around $12 billion, but in reality, closer to $9.5 is more realistic.
