Is Icelandair modding it’s livery with this new 737 Max 8?

Due to be delivered at the end of March, Icelandair’s first 737-8 Max was spotted at Paine Field.

Are they trying to change the livery? Or is it just misleading pre-delivery finishing that’s required?

First, the shade of blue used on the tail is lighter than the current shade of blue.

Secondly,’Icelandair’ in white lettering below the yellow logo on the tail is missing.

And thirdly, the dark blue belly separated from the white paint by a yellow stripe in the past has no stripe.

Now it’s well known that Icelandair likes to do much of its own paint and finishing, but a change in blue on the tail is too major and indicative change is on the way.

So is the 737-8 heralding a change for Icelandair? In an age where simplification and dumbing down are brand trends – as we saw with Lufthansa recently, I wouldn’t be surprised.
