Valentines Day brings record air cargo shipments from S.America

The vast demand for Valentines day flowers resulted in 163 flights in one week from Ecuador, Chile and Colombia, moving over 2 million flower stems per aircraft.

Delivering over 12,000 tons of flowers to Europe and North America in one week was the peak, deliveries build up over a 4 week period for longer life or full rooted plants, but this year was described as a record.

Asian demand for Valentines flowers has markedly increased and LATAM Cargo one of the biggest shippers, found itself stretched to meet demand.

Miami International transhipped over 6,000 tons of flowers alone in the week before 14th February.
