Delta wants to be 797 launch customer

Boeing’s mid-market 797x, which is designed to replace the 757 and 767 on trans-continental routes in the US and international mid-haul, so appeals to Delta that it wants to be launch customer.

Ed Bastion, Delta’s CEO, said yesterday that the company wanted to work with Boeing to develop an aircraft specification that meets its needs.

The aircraft, which is unlikely to see flights until 2025 at the earliest, would compete against the A321 series, carry more passengers and more cargo on international routes.

Many thought Delta had fallen out with Boeing over the Bombardier scandal, and its orders with Airbus have indicated its preferences of late, but when it comes to the 797x all seems forgiven.
