United steps back from military contracts

United Airlines has not entered into bidding for the substantial US military transport contracts issued for the period 2018 to 2023.

Almost half a billion dollars in opportunities for cargo and passengers was made available and bids were received from ABX Air, American, ATSG, Atlas, Delta, FedEx, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Miami Air, National Air Cargo, Polar, UPS, USA Jet Airlines and Western Global Airlines.

United Airlines declined to comment. For some years it operated at least one 744 in a different livery with a solid blue tail and CHARTER tiles on the fuselage, that operated out of San Francisco on military contracts.
