IAG last man standing in battle for Niki

With the administrators in Vienna having worked almost non-stop this week to weed out viable bids for the bankrupt former AirBerlin subsidiary, a brief announcement was made at lunchtime today, stating only International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) remained as a viable winner of the battle for Niki.

More news is expected later today or early next week. The point of the announcement was to ensure that the Austrian Government didn’t revoke the AOC or release the airlines slots at Vienna Schwecat International.

Nobody knows what IAG will do with the brand, but there’s no doubt it will add spice and competition to the Central European market, heavily dominated by Lufthansa and its own extensive network of subsidiaries.
