Europe’s worst managed airport project finally got an opening date after a meeting of the supervisory board of BER – Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt International Airport.
The Airport is to open, following millions of Euros in repairs, remedial work, new doors, electrical and fire systems, in October 2020, almost ten years late.
The problem now lies in that there is no money to maintain the airport past June 2018 – everything has to be kept in full working order even though there is nobody using the airport. Without aircraft and passengers it has no income.
The airports supervisory board is now working with the City of Berlin and the State Government of Brandenburg to provide funding for the transition to operations in 2020.
