Air New Zealand admitted that a part of the fan had separated on two occasions just after take off on December the 5th & 6th on two separate aircraft. The country’s air safety board is investigating.
Meanwhile Virgin Atlantic has had to park up two aircraft for take off problems related to its Rolls Royce powered 787-9’s.
There is a shortage of spares – something not unusual in production engines – and no spare engines either.
Other airlines are said to be looking at their engines and considering what to do. The problem appears to affect the earliest 787-9’s and related jet engines . ANZ was launch customer for the 787-9.
