Ryanair has applied for slots to base nine Boeing 737-800s at Berlin Tegel in order to compete with easyJet and Lufthansa/Eurowings. This is in addition to the nine aircraft Ryanair has based at Berlin (Schoenefeld) in the south of the city where the new Willy Brandt International (Berlin-Brandenburg) sits idle.

Air travel from Belrin Tegel has fallen a net 12% since the loss of AirBerlin.
