You never think things like this are possible with such massive airlines, but having suffered pilot shortages caused by its own software and human error, RyanAir could teach American how to deal with the social media storm that follows.
Yesterday American revealed a similar mix of software over reliance and human error, has resulted in a shortage of pilots over the upcoming December Christmas and new year holidays.
The social media outcry was pretty intense, but American is adamant it has it covered with extra pilots, and forcing pilots to work while paying them 150% of their hourly rate.
The pilots union however says that American has overstepped its rights under the pilots contract but is unlikely to take the matter further.
American will have to tread carefully over the next few weeks to make sure nothing goes wrong during the holidays.
