easyJet granted Frankfurt slots

easyJet has been granted a group of slot pairs from the former AirBerlin set to operate its Berlin Tegel to Frankfurt routes. This is the first time the airline has gained access to the airport, which is now also a major RyanAir base, the two won’t be in direct competition however.

Lufthansa is going to have to look at its Berlin domestic operations – the principle of only flying Lufthansa branded aircraft with all the attendant costs and overheads – from Munich and Frankfurt – and no Eurowings – isn’t going to be viable long term with easyJet on the routes. AirBerlin wasn’t competitive because it couldn’t afford to be, easyJet is another matter.
