Garuda Indonesia is discussing with Boeing and leasors the deferral of 49 of its 50 Max 8 order. One is already being built and the airline accepts it will have to take delivery, but it’s made it clear it is not prepared to take the rest, until at the earliest, 2020/21.

The airline is experiencing competition and pricing pressures from Lion Air and Air Asia, and needs to solidify its financial position before taking on more new aircraft.
