Qantas 787-9 unveiling

Qantas formally unveiled the newly named VH-ZNA, Great Southern Land, at Boeing’s Everett delivery facility yesterday.

Designed to carry 236 passengers across 42 business class, 28 premium economy and 166 economy. laid out in 1-2-1, 2-3-2 and 3-3-3 respectively, which is pretty standard for 787.

The seat width in economy suffers, as they all do on Dreamliners – just 17.2″ wide with a 32″ pitch, they don’t hit the headlines for generosity of space.

The new premium economy is far from class leading, seats are cloth, relatively narrow but far nicer than economy

Business cabin seems plain, not to the standard of Singapore or Cathay Pacific, or even Emirates, certainly not Qatar.

I am a big fan of 787-9’s, I’ve flown a few now, and while I love Qantas as a brand and the new livery on the 789’s looks superb, the interiors seem a little bit Grade-2, especially compared to some of its direct competitors.
