Russian lease owner tries to sell its A380’s

Russia’s VEB leasing company has decided to try to sell its four A380’s to an overseas buyer.

The problem? They aren’t built and nobody wants them. The aircraft were destined for Transaero, until the owners of the airline fell out of favour with the Putin administration and the company was forced into bankruptcy, and effectively handed over to Aeroflot.

VEB have already paid a $237 million deposit for the aircraft that’s not refundable. Quite who might be interested is anyone’s guess, but if they were a real bargain, BA and Turkish have always said they’d take A380’s if they were cheap enough.

If they cannot be sold, as A380’s VEB will attempt to renegotiate with Airbus for a more saleable type of aircraft.
