Qatar Airways Cargo has taken delivery of its thirteenth Boeing 777 freighter at its home base at Doha’s Hamad International Airport. Continuing its trajectory of rapid growth and expansion, Qatar Cargo is now the world’s third largest international cargo carrier. It’s fleet now includes 22 freighters, comprising eight Airbus A330F, 13 Boeing 777F and one Boeing 747-8F.
The speed of growth has greatly accelerated as the war of words, much of it carried out on Washington’s K Street, where lobbying firms are being paid by both sides (Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt mainly against Qatar), are spending fortunes on deriding each other in online and print ad campaigns.
Meanwhile the blockade of Qatar continues and it keeps buying more freighters to get round it, a policy that’s clearly working. With the help of Turkish Air Cargo and others, the blockade has less effect materially every day.
