Lufthansa & easyJet favourites to buy AirBerlin

Lufthansa Group and easyJet have been selected as preferred bidders for the main assets of bankrupt AirBerlin, the German carrier has confirmed through its legal team. Lufthansa also submitted a bid for airberlin’s Austrian-subsidiary NIKI, which could possibly be integrated into its Eurowings subsidiary.

AirBerlin bankruptcy administrator Lucas Flöther is said to have wanted to keep these decisions confidential until Monday after Germany’s Sunday general elections, but news quickly leaked out.
