American Airlines looking to drop its A350 order

American Airlines is considering dropping its A350 order of 22 aircraft. The problem is that they consider the size of the order too small for an airline of their size, and that the Dreamliner fleet and its order book can do the same job. The -1000 is also seen as being too close in size to the 777-9.

The loss of another batch of the -1000’s would severely impact Airbus’ bottom line on the entire  A350 programme but especially the -1000.

American inherited the order which is long standing, but while they admit to needing the aircraft they just don’t think the A350-1000 is the right one to go with.

No formal descison has been announced yet, but discussions with Airbus are said to be underway.  One way out is to buy A330neo.
