Amsterdam Schipol rations slots

Amsterdam Schipol Airport is starting to ration slots. In 2008 it agreed with local government and residents that it wouldn’t exceed 500,000 slots per year before 2019.

Now they’re going to run out before the end of the year. Obligations to KLM and other passeneger airlines mean that the cargo operators who have no supercession rights, will loose 20% of their landing and take off slots for the rest of the year; just as it approaches peak cargo season prior to Christmas.

The damage this could do to cargo operators at Schipol is massive and will force them to use Belgian or German airports instead, never mind add costs to ship by road to the final destination.
