Thai grounds 787’s over engine fears

Thai has grounded 4 of 6 787-8’s fitted with Rolls Royce engines after an unidentified part failed.

Rolls Royce is aware of the problem, and because it’s been retroactively fitting the part to all engines made during a certain period, they’re in short supply. Thai expects to have its aircraft grounded until late August, with full return to service in September.

Regardless of the cause, taking four frontline aircraft out of use is a blow for Thai, as they do everything they can to try and return to healthy margins. The military government is unlikely to grant funding for more A350’s if it can’t stay in profit.
