Volcanic eruption in Alaska threatens air cargo

The Bogoslof Island Volcano has sent up a significant ash cloud, which is causing delays or cancellations to cargo flights from Asia to the US and Europe. Airlines as diverse as Cathay Pacific, Cargolux and China Cargo Airlines have cancelled or postponed flights. The ‘just in time’ nature of cargo operations means warehousing and transhipment points fill up quickly, raising prices for cargo and causing significant knock on effects both sides of the supply chain.
